Arlene Ladden is a Bronx-born native New Yorker. She holds a BA from SUNY at Buffalo and an MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop in Iowa City. She also has an MA in English and a Ph.D in Comparative Literature from NYU where she specialized in Medieval Studies. She is a full professor of English at LaGuardia Community College (CUNY) where, in addition to teaching her wonderful students, she was actively involved in College governance (as President of the Faculty Council, as a college and University Faculty Senator, also serving in the President’s cabinet, in the CUNY Council of Governance Leaders, and, for a short term, as acting chair of her department). She lives with her artist husband, Michael, sometimes sharing their apartment with her daughter Cassidy, and divides her time between NYC and upstate New York where she writes poetry and is currently beginning her study of QiGong.
