Distribution Plan

THE HERETICS will be screened at international film festivals, prominent museums and film centers, colleges and universities, and on national public or cable television.  We will distribute to PEG Access centers and community groups through DVD and online distribution.  Distributors will sell DVDs to individuals and schools.  We will create a website for the project complete with artist profiles, video clips from the film, links to the work of each artist, and an indexed archive of every issue of HERESIES.  The website can be used by teachers to engage students in learning more about each artist, feminism and other issues presented in the film.

Theatrical Release:
Currently, the revival and interest in documentary films, has produced a series of wide distribution theatrical releases, for such films as: SUPERSIZE ME, FARENHEIGHT 911, CONTROL ROOM, THE CORPORATION, MARCH OF THE PENGUINS, SPELLING BEE, MAD HOT BALLROOM, and FAVELLA RISING, we hope that THE HERETICS will join this distinguished list and gain runs at art house cinemas around the world.

Broadcast/Cable/Internet:
Shows like POV, which has a PBS national feed, showcase contemporary work produced by producers such as ITVS.  This work is often personal, though also addresses larger historical issues.  THE HERETICS will endeavor to find support from such newer venues as the HBO, Sundance and Logo documentary programming as well as forging new connections with channels like the Discovery Channel, Lifetime, LOGO and IFC.   In all of these cases, women in general and the feminist movement in particular, have not received sufficient attention.

Community Television:
Satellite placement by channels like Free Speech TV, Deep Dish Satellite Network, et, all, have wide audiences and once again, are still subject to the historical invisibility of women.  This must be redressed.

DVD Distribution:
Other possibilities such as video and DVD rental and distribution include thematic organizations such as Women Make Movies and artist organizations like Video Data Bank.  Companies like Netflix and Facets make independent documentaries available to a wider audience for viewing at home.  Here, too, there has been a dramatic rise in interest among audiences for exciting documentaries like THE HERETICS.
